Zulmir Bečević is a celebrated, dynamic young Swedish writer. He was born in 1982 in Orasje, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He came to Sweden in 1992 as a war refugee. He has studied political science and peace and conflict studies and been an intern at the Swedish Embassy in Reykjavik. Side by side with his authorship he is also a PhD student at Linköping University. In 2006 his debut novel Resan som började med ett slut/The journey that began with an ending was published by Alfabeta Stockholm. The novel received fantastic reviews from the unanimous Swedish media and was proclaimed as one of the best novels for young people in that year.

The journey that began with an ending was nominated for the prestigious literary award “Slangbellan”, handed out to the best debut novel for children and young adults. The Swedish Writers’ Association has awarded Zulmir with a travel scholarship handed out to young, talented writers. At the Gothenburg Book Fair 2008 he received the Klas de Vylder scholarship for Swedish writers with immigrant roots. For his second novel, Svenhammeds journaler/The journals of Svenhammed, he has received a nomination for the prestigious literary award Augustpriset.
